Mariana Duarte
As a film editor, I embrace my role as a professional supporter that aims at helping filmmakers to achieve the film they envisioned; as a filmmaker, I'm interested in exploring the boundaries between documentary and fiction.

Mariana's story:
Mariana Duarte is a Brazilian Filmmaker and Editor working between Scotland, Portugal, and Brazil.

My academic background is in History (Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil) and Visual Anthropology, Media, and Documentary Practices (University of Münster, Germany).

After six years working as a Film and TV Editor at Globo Network, the leading Brazilian broadcast TV Network, in 2020, I graduated from the MA Kino Eyes in Filmmaking, with a full-degree Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and mobility at three European institutions: Screen Academy Scotland (UK), Baltic Film School (Estonia) and Lusofona University (Portugal).

I have also worked as a Multimedia Journalist in Belgium, producing a series of video reports on social-cultural issues and the short film "Newcomers" – about the situation of asylum seekers in Brussels – produced by the Centre Vidéo de Bruxelles and screened at festivals Europe and Brazil.

I am currently researching Border Aesthetics in creative documentary film, postcolonial cinema, feminist studies, citizenship narratives, and forced migration.
