Mariana's story:
Mariana Duarte is a Brazilian film editor/director/researcher based in Scotland.

Mariana Duarte is a Brazilian independent film editor, documentary filmmaker and PhD candidate (Documentary Film Practice) at the Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh. Her academic background is in History (Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil) and Visual Anthropology (University of Munster, Germany). After six years working as Senior Video Editor at Globo Network, the leading Brazilian television production company, she graduated from the MA Kino Eyes (Film Editing) in 2020, with an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. She has edited several short films, such as the drama Three Graces (2020) and directed the documentary Newcomers (2013) - about asylum seekers' struggles in Belgium – which premiered at Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival. She is currently conducting practice-based research on forced displacement and border-crossing narratives in creative Documentary Film, funded by the Edinburgh College of Art PhD Scholarship. In 2022, she was selected for the Berlinale Talents, the talent development programme of the Berlin International Film Festival.
