Sophie's story

With a background in psychology, I graduated in 2019 as a documentary filmmaker in the Netherlands at the HKU - University of the Arts Utrecht. During my studies, my second year documentary The Art of living (2017) was screened at the Go Short - International Short Film Festival in the Go Ahead programme. In my third year I did an internship in program development at Zodiak Netherlands and made the commercial documentary Colours of Kampala (2018) in Uganda.

After the HKU I worked in copywriting, directing and editing. At work experience place Docwerk (Van Osch Films) I made five short documentary items for the NTR program (Dutch broadcaster) Art Department (2020). In 2021 I won the Gelderland Film Pitch 3 with my film plan Synchronous. This documentary premiered in 2022 at the Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen. Besides that, I worked as an editor/researcher & director/editor for film, television and commercial. For example, I directed for Wirtz Film, VICE and I edited, directed and edited for the NTR program New Generation.

In September 2022 I started my one-year master's degree in Film Directing at the Edinburgh College of Art (The University of Edinburgh). Currently I am working on two documentaires about mental health.
