Caitlin's story

Caitlin McMullan is a filmmaker and researcher with a background in design. Often exploring her own identity within her practice, Caitlin is interested in creating work that changes perceptions and creates new ways of thinking about disability. She is interested in resetting the narrative of the disabled experience and uses her own experience of disability as the driving force behind the work that she creates.

In 2019 Caitlin collaborated on the film Material Bodies, which was developed through her research project, Sensory Prosthetics, at University College London’s Institute of Making. Material Bodies has now been screened at festivals internationally and was published by NOWNESS in 2021.

Caitlin has recently finished a commission from GMAC Film as part of their Little Pictures programme, First Step Swim, which will premiere at Glasgow Short Film Festival this year and has been shortlisted for the Scotland’s Year of Stories: Tiny Changes award. In 2021 Caitlin also participated in Scottish Documentary Institute’s New Voices Programme and Bridging the Gap. She is currently developing a film for Bridging the Gap which is due to be released later this year.
